Interesting story and the backing track is good but your animation is too shaky. You should try building your props out of something sturdier then clay so they don't move so much. For example, the table you used could easily be replaced by a small wooden structure that you glue to your base. This would prevent it moving around and also your fingerprints on it. Also, turn the frame rate up. It looks like you shot it on 3's maybe? Stop motion looks particularly poor if shot on anything less then 1's. Still nice to see someone rocking clay though! Keep going!

Thaiel responds:

Thankyou for the idea. Didn't think of sticking it to the floor.
I'm trying to find something better that clay. unfortunately, it seems there's none here in arg. I'll try to find hard child clay.
Apart from that. HOLY FUCK 1000 views from 290 in one day.

nice,

your animation was minimal, but it was well illustrated. The storytelling and audio was what impressed me the most, the twist at the end was revealed masterfully. I must ask, what is the name of the song you used? Very haunting.

Havelkin responds:

hey,Thanks..
the name is - Lamenta
is from X-Files OST , made by Mark Snow.. that song inspired me too..
(I give the credit to Marks Snow at the end screen :-))

yess

love traditional pencil drawing.
what do you animate on? is this actually pencil and paper and light box?
you rocking 1s or 2s? i love the idea and that first scene of the planet got me hard.
keep the pencil alive and well dude.

Weenog responds:

pencil, paper, lightbox, and the colorouring was done with photoshop and toons, practicly all of it is on 1ns and its about 370 drawings in total i think.
thanks for the review ^^

The most definitive.

Easily the best in your Brackenwood series. You've developed your storytelling skills immensely, and took Brackenwood to a different level in this short. The establishing celestial shot was honestly epic. You revisit *practically* every other short and put some more meaning behind it which helps redefine the series as a whole. Great cliff hanger ending also and as always, (do we even need to tell you anymore?) flawless fucking animation my friend. Just beautiful. Do you animate on 1's or 2's for the most part? It looks like the running scenes were on 1's, but some of the close ups and whatnot are on 2's... Lovely work.

chluaid responds:

yeah mostly on 2s wherever possible but 1s when necessary. if you go frame-by-frame in those 3D floating camera shots, you'll notice that the animated background is on 1s but the character animation is mostly on 2s. That's the cos the character is more time consuming X)

Thanks for the awesome review, I'm glad you got something out of it!

Solid idea.

But I'm not sure the animation was up to par with such a heavy idea. Extremely well executed and written wonderfully. Your drawings were also pretty solid, but as far as the actual animation goes, it's slim to none. Other then that, great short.

"Although this film is a modern animated classic, akin to the old works of Walt Disney and the like, I staunchly disagree with its profane imagery and vulgar message. It was truly a mistake on my part when I allowed my two small children to be present during its screening. I don't believe the taint will every be washed from their impressionable young minds."
How does this bear any resemblance to Walt Disney or sexual intercourse?

th1rt3en responds:

There really wasn't much non-tweening animation. If I could draw well enough, I could have frame-by-framed the plant growth and the animals, and the few bits with the astronaut. But in lieu of that ability I focused mainly on 'camera' placement and movement. Thanks.

And don't mind him, he's just a troll.

Awesome.

This is my style man. Everything was awesome. I loved all of that great fbf you had in there, and some of the metaphors. I liked that bit with the baggie turning into the jay and into the F. Plus, you can't go wrong with Hendrix. Good stuff. Check out my stuff. Collab?

Snubby responds:

thanks man

This is good sprite

I really liked this. It's good to see you didn't take yourself too seriously and added a Koopa into the mix. I thought it worked well and it was very well animated. The plot is decent so far, but I'd like to see more. As redundant and over used as they are here on newgrounds, I think you should do a cross over series, with maybe more then just Castlevania and Mario, and perhaps Chrono Trigger and some other good game characters. Regardless, I'd like to see more of this series, keep up the good work.

shiguy-master responds:

thanks man :)

Decent.

It looks very Dan Paladin inspired, which isn't a bad thing, because it was also pretty original. One thing I did like a lot, was how you zoomed in on the characters faces, and you could see all the details on them. It showed you have a little more drawing ability then little walking blobs. Now the animation itself could use some work. It was very sketchy frame by frame, which seemed to fit with the style, but could use some touching up. Overall, I liked it, but it needs some work done to it to make it a real gem here on Newgrounds. Try adding actual punch animations instead of just the tween of one character punching, then the other flying backward. It's good to use once in awhile, but not every time something happens, it comes off as cheesy. Also, when you do decide to animate something like that, don't make them silouhetes, it's unnecessary and it seems like your just being lazy, but I've done the same thing, so I can sympathize. Overall, it's a good flash, keep up the good work. Best of Luck.

CYCLOKAT responds:

Thanks for your huge speech and im not LAZY :)

Awesome.

I'm really glad to see such great work coming from someone whose not very well known here on Newgrounds. This is really great shit man. Very original characters, and extremely well animated. The whole grotesque feel set this real nice mood to watch that. I really could appreciate some of the black comedy (at least I thought it was funny) that you snuck in there. The sound effects were used well, overall this was just an amazing flash. Please continue Mortasheen, it's a very rich world, and you should expand with a story and plot and add some background to the characters. I don't know if you should make it something big, but look at the little buzzers for example. Great job overall, please keep up the great work. PM me if you have any questions are need help. I'm always looking to do work.

Scythemantis responds:

Thanks! I always appreciate detailed comments. I definitely want to do more than just this one short, though I'm not sure what direction I'd be going. I originally planned something with dialog and some human characters, but who knows.

Wow.

I can't say it isn't well animated, because it is, but the pixel thing wasn't working in this. I don't know if it was because I wasn't expecting it or if it was just a personal turnoff, but either way, it didn't seem to work. The music was excellent and really fit the pixelated animation style you were working with. As hard I tried to avoid my biased already going into this, I feel some was left over. I know it isn't your fault, but for lack of a better word, you 'stole' my characters name. I don't want to point a finger at you because you probably thought of your idea before mine, but it still bothered me. Anyway, Good Luck with this series. It looks promising!

Gerkinman responds:

Astro? Hes been a character of mine for about 5 years now, was from one of my old old comic series.
